Canoeing, Kayaking and Stand Up paddle boarding

Note: Program participants must already be comfortable around water.

The St. Mary's Boat Club offer's FREE canoe and stand up paddle board rentals.

Free Canoe Rentals

Location: St. Mary's Boat Club (Rentals are located near the docks)

Available on weekends between June 8 to September 28, 2024.
Available on Saturdays in June and September.
Available on Saturdays and Sundays in July and August.
Rentals available between 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. 1-hour rentals.
Limited drop-in spaces are available, pre-registration is recommended.
All safety equipment will be provided.
One Rental is for one Canoe (accommodates up to 2 adults and 2 small children or 3 adults).

Rental Process:

All canoe rentals are required to be booked in advance by calling 902-490-6666 or online at www.halifax.ca/myrec. Limited drop-in spaces will be available each day, pre-registration is recommended.

When you show up:

Sign a Canoe/Kayak Waiver form which can be downloaded by clicking here or can be completed on arrival.
Provide a current Government-issued ID required to borrow the gear.

When borrowing a canoe, you must:

Abide by all safety regulations set out by Transport Canada and St. Mary’s Boat Club.
Stay within the boundaries of the Northwest Arm as indicated by staff.

Beginner Kayak Paddle Nights

Join our staff for a Kayaking tour of the Northwest Arm! If it’s your first time in a kayak, our staff can help you learn some basic paddle strokes, learn how to enter and exit the water and feel confident on the water.

Join our trained kayak staff for an evening paddling along the Northwest Arm in Halifax. The group will run through some safety requirements before exploring the coastline. This session is an opportunity to explore a larger area and is recommended for those already comfortable in a kayak.

Family Learn to Canoe

Are you looking for something fun and adventurous to do with your family? Sign up for one of our Family learn to canoe sessions!

During these sessions, certified canoeing staff will teach you the basic skills of canoeing including:

How to fit a life jacket
The correct sizing of a paddle,
Safety protocols
Paddling techniques
The anatomy of a canoe
How to stern (steer ) the canoe
and much more

Our canoes can accommodate a family of 5. When registering please only register one family member to book your spot.
