Rural swim programs and lifeguard certification

The municipality is offering free lifeguard certification to residents living in rural areas. 

Participants will be required to attend all lifeguarding courses to complete the certification:

Intermediate First Aid

  • Musquodoboit Harbour
  • Nov. 15 and 16 from 9 a.m.to 5 p.m.

Bronze Medallion

  • Virtual: Nov. 21, from 5-9 p.m. 
  • Musquodoboit Harbour: Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Sackville Sports Stadium: Nov. 23 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

Bronze Cross

  • Virtual: Nov. 28 from 5-9 p.m. 
  • Sackville Sports Stadium: Nov. 20 and 30 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

National Lifeguard – pool

  • Virtual: Dec. 5 from 5-9 p.m.
  • Sackville Sports Stadium: Dec. 6 and 7 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Virtual: Dec. 12 from 5-9 p.m. 
  • Sackville Sports Stadium: Dec. 13 and 14 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  

The new program is connected to recommendations from the municipality’s Rural Recreation Strategy

Please note: Free transportation is available for participants from Sheet Harbour and Musquodoboit Harbour to Sackville Sports Stadium. On days when courses are held in Musquodoboit Harbour, free transportation will also be provided from Sheet Harbour.

Eligibility requirements include*:

  • must be 15 years old or older
    *Priority given to those living in rural areas
