A Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) Identification card can be used to obtain free travel on Halifax Transit's bus and ferry services.

Tickets, Monthly Pass, and Regional Express XPasses
Monthly Halifax Transit passes can be purchased from Transit retail partners. They are available beginning on the 20th of each month until the 10th of the following month.
EPass
Halifax Transit’s EPass program offers an annual discounted transit pass that can be purchased by employees of SmartTrip members through payroll deduction. Find more information here.
Upass
Halifax Transit’s UPass program offers students an annual discounted transit pass as part of the enrollment fee paid to the educational institution. Find more information here.
Student Transit Pass Pilot Program
Halifax Transit’s Student Transit Pass Pilot Program offers students in participating junior high and high schools a free annual transit pass. Find more information here.
Discounted Transit Fares Programs
On December 14, 2021 Regional Council approved a change to Halifax Regional Municipality By-Law Number U-100 – Respecting User Charges, which now allows charities/non-profit organizations, as well as event organizers to purchase discounted bulk transit fares.
Non-profit Organizations and Registered Charities
Organizations that wish to purchase tickets for the purpose of distributing them free of charge to the individuals they serve will be eligible for a 50% discount for both Adult and Youth/Senior 10-ticket sheets (minimum purchase of 50 tickets).

Event Organizers
Event organizers who are interested in having transit fees waived for ticket holders may now purchase bulk transit fares at a rate of $1.00 per event ticket for event attendees to travel to and from the event.

Transfers
Transfers are valid for up to 90 minutes after the end of the route and can be used on all Halifax Transit routes and services.
Please note:
- Punch marks are used to specify the issue date, and torn off to indicate the transfers’ expiration time.
- Passengers must request a transfer upon boarding the bus or ferry when making their initial fare payment.
- Additional transfer fares are required for Regional Express service. Please refer to the fare chart above.
