The work for the Shore Road Bridge Replacement and Paving project was completed on July 14, 2020, and the road has now reopened to traffic.
The municipality utilizes a bridge inspection program to understand the condition of all municipally-owned bridges. Through this program, it was identified that the bridge on Shore Road in Eastern Passage required replacement. This work also included the following additional upgrades to existing infrastructure:
- Replacement of Shore Road bridge (located between Francis Drive and Government Wharf Road)
- Installation of new concrete sidewalk (south side, from Cow Bay Road to Government Wharf Road)
- Replacement of existing asphalt sidewalk with new concrete sidewalk (north side, from Cow Bay Road to Government Wharf Road)
- Repaving of Shore Road, from the Cow Bay Road to Oceanlea Drive
Road construction began on March 30, 2020, and was completed on July 14, 2020. The closure of the bridge was in effect from April 6, 2020 until Saturday, June 27, 2020.
Note: A Noise By-law exemption had been granted to complete portions of work that were affected by the timing of tides in the area. This means that work could have taken place through the night or early in the morning hours, from April 8, 2020 to May 1, 2020, and May 11, 2020 to May 15, 2020 inclusive.
