Travelling to Nocturne

Nocturne: Art at Night returns Oct. 16-19, 2025, and the city becomes your gallery. Whether you're walking, biking, rolling or riding transit, there are countless ways to explore this year’s illuminated art installations across Halifax and Dartmouth.

Skip the traffic. Embrace the experience. Choose sustainable, convenient travel options and make your journey part of the art:

Carpool, park and ride

Avoid the hassle of finding a spot to park downtown.

Park at the Bridge Terminal or Mumford Terminal and hop on Halifax Transit's Route #1 to reach the heart of the festival.

Walk, roll and wander

With installations around every corner, walking is the easiest way to soak it all in. Stroll through vibrant streets and discover art in unexpected places. Nocturne's 2025 theme is "Ground" – and what better way to honour it than by exploring it on foot or by wheels?

Bike to the art

Pedal your way between projects. Bring your own bike or rent one through Bird Canada and enjoy 10% off with promo code NOCTURNE25.

On Saturday, Oct. 18, enjoy a municipally-sponsored bike valet service between 6 and 10 p.m. Park your bike securely at one of three valet locations:

  • Alderney Landing Ferry Terminal (2 Ochterloney St.)
  • Halifax Central Library (5440 Spring Garden Rd.)
  • Seven Bays Bouldering (2019 Gottingen St.)

Look for directional signage near each location.

Hop on a bus

Halifax Transit gets you closer to the art. With frequent evening service and routes linking key festival zones, it's the smart way to travel.

Route #1 is your go-to:

  • Runs frequently into the evening on weekdays and weekends.
  • Connects the Bridge Terminal and Mumford Terminal (both with parking available).
  • Passes directly through the festival area (Gottingen St., Barrington St. and Spring Garden Rd.).

Use the HFXGO app to pay your fare – just $3 per trip, with discounts available for youth and seniors.

This year, Nocturne is bringing art to many Halifax Transit buses. Keep an eye out for mobile installations as your ride.

Ferry between Halifax and Dartmouth

Travel between Halifax and Dartmouth by ferry and enjoy waterfront views as part of your Nocturne experience. It's a scenic, low-impact way to connect with both sides of the harbour.

Back by popular demand on Saturday, Oct. 18 is Ferry-oke – belt out your favourite tune, share a tambourine and sway to the music while making your harbour journey.

Bike valet

On Saturday, Oct. 18, enjoy a municipally-sponsored bike valet service between 6 and 10 p.m. Park your bike securely at one of three valet locations:

  • Alderney Landing Ferry Terminal (2 Ochterloney St.)
