The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that preliminary estimates indicate that approximately 200 homes or structures have been damaged as a result of the fires. A full assessment of the damage cannot yet be confirmed. The estimated numbers are based on initial visual inspections by first responders.

The Halifax Regional Municipality is reminding residents that comfort centres have been opened to assist those impacted by the fires.

The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that an evacuation centre has been opened at the Canada Games Centre, located at 26 Thomas Raddall Drive. The evacuation centre has been opened to support residents impacted by the fires, especially those do not have family supports or insurance. The Canada Games Centre will remain open until further notice.

Effective 11 p.m. tonight, Mayor Mike Savage and Regional Council have declared a local state of emergency in the communities affected by the fires. The local state of emergency will be in effect for seven days, unless otherwise lifted or extended.
