Police search for suspects involved in an altercation on a Halifax Transit bus

On February 22 at approximately 1:45 p.m. police responded to an altercation on a Halifax Transit bus in the Spryfield area. An altercation had begun at the intersection of Herring Cove Road and Dentith Road between passengers on the bus and people driving in two separate vehicles. A physical fight broke out on the bus, with one person using a hammer as a weapon. The bus pulled into a bus stop at Herring Cove Road and Williams Lake Road. The two vehicles also stopped, people exited and approached the bus. One person sprayed a sensory irritant into the bus. Several passengers sustained non-life-threatening injuries, and the bus was evacuated. The suspects fled the area both on foot and in their vehicles.

The suspect vehicles are described as a white SUV or Crossover and the other vehicle was silver in colour. One of the suspects is described as an Indigenous man in his 20s with a heavy-set build and dark hair. He was wearing a hooded sweatshirt with a pattern underneath a dark jacket at the time of the incident.

Anyone with information about this incident, or video from the area, is asked to call police at 902-490-5020. Anonymous tips can be sent to Crime Stoppers by calling toll-free 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), submitting a secure web tip at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca or by using the P3 Tips app.

Police conduct proactive traffic enforcement

On February 21, officers conducted a cell phone check point at Nantucket Avenue and Wyse Road. Officers issued eight summary offence tickets: Four for using a cell phone while driving, one for no insurance, one for operating a vehicle without a valid license, one for no registration, and one for an invalid safety inspection.

In addition to the proactive enforcement, officers also issued 14 summary offence tickets: One for speeding, one for improper use of signs/signals, two for no insurance, two for an invalid safety inspection, three for failing to display valid registration, four for using a cell phone while driving and one for no license.

February’s road safety theme is distracted driving. Avoid distractions by keeping your phone out of reach. Distracted driving puts you and everyone on the road at risk. We all have a role to play in keeping our roads safe.
