The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents of a number of changes to the intersection of Allan, Oak and Oxford streets, as part of the Allan-Oak Local Street Bikeway project.
A new pedestrian half-signal has been added to this intersection. As a result, the following traffic changes are in effect:
- Push buttons for cyclists have been added to help provide a safer and more efficient cyclist crossing of Oxford Street at heavy traffic times. Pushing this button is optional for cyclists, who must otherwise stop at the stop sign and then proceed across using a safe gap in traffic.
- A new crosswalk has been installed across the south side of the intersection for those walking and rolling.
- Vehicles approaching Oxford Street, on both Allan and Oak streets, can no longer drive straight through the intersection, and instead must turn left or right.
These changes aim to improve the comfort, safety, and convenience of those walking, rolling and cycling along the Allan-Oak corridor.
The Allan-Oak Local Street Bikeway project was approved by Halifax Regional Council in May 2018 as part of the Regional All-Ages-and-Abilities Cycling Networking, outlined in the Integrated Mobility Plan.

La Municipalité régionale d’Halifax informe les résidents d’un certain nombre de changements à l’intersection des rues Allan, Oak et Oxford dans le cadre du projet de voie cyclable locale sur rue Allan-Oak.
Un nouveau feu piétonnier unidirectionnel a été ajouté à cette intersection. Par conséquent, les changements suivants ont été apportés à la circulation :
- Des boutons-poussoirs pour cyclistes ont été ajoutés pour aider les cyclistes à traverser la rue Oxford de manière plus sécuritaire et efficiente lorsque la circulation est forte. Appuyer sur ce bouton est optionnel pour les cyclistes, lesquels doivent autrement s’arrêter au panneau d’arrêt et ensuite traverser lorsqu’un espace sécuritaire apparaît dans la circulation.
- Un nouveau passage piétonnier a été installé le long du côté sud de l’intersection pour ceux qui marchent et qui roulent.
- Les véhicules qui s’approchent de la rue Oxford, sur les rues Allan et Oak, ne peuvent plus traverser directement l’intersection et doivent maintenant faire un virage à gauche ou à droite.
Ces changements visent à améliorer le confort, la sécurité et la convivialité pour ceux qui marchent, qui roulent et qui font de la bicyclette le long du corridor Allan-Oak.
Le projet de voie cyclable locale sur rue Allan-Oak a été approuvé par le Conseil régional d’Halifax en mai 2018 dans le cadre du réseau régional de voies cyclables pour les résidents de tous âges et de toutes capacités, présenté dans le Plan de mobilité intégrée.
