Halifax Regional Police responded to 786 calls for service over the weekend. Some notable incidents are as follows:
Police charge man with attempted murder
On June 15 at approximately 12:20 a.m., officers responded to a report of a stabbing in a residence within the 60 block of Primrose Street in Dartmouth. Two men, who were known to each other, got into an altercation and one of the men stabbed the other with a knife.
At approximately 12:25 a.m., officers arrested the suspect on scene. The suspect was also identified as being involved in a break and enter that occurred at NSLC earlier that evening at approximately 10 p.m.
The victim was transported to the hospital by EHS and was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Jayden Daniel Smith, 25, is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court today to face charges of:
- Attempted murder
- Breach of probation (x2)
- Break and enter
- Possession of stolen goods under $5000.00
- Mischief

Police charge man with unlawful confinement and assault
On June 14 at approximately 2:05 p.m., officers responded to a report of an assault in progress within the 70 block of Demetreous Lane in Dartmouth. The victim, who is known to the suspect, was able to get away prior to police arrival.
The suspect barricaded himself inside the residence and refused to exit or comply with the officers’ verbal commands. Police negotiators were called to the scene and a warrant to enter the residence was obtained.
At approximately 5:35 p.m., the suspect was arrested with assistance from the Emergency Response Team.
The victim was transported to the hospital by EHS for non-life-threatening injuries.
Corey Aaron Whynder, 34, is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court today to face charges of:
- Assault
- Unlawful confinement
- Assault a peace officer with a weapon (x2)
- Resist arrest
