The following is a statement from the Halifax Regional Municipality regarding the removal of an illegal and unsafe structure on municipal property:
Mid-afternoon on Saturday, Feb. 26, the municipality was made aware that a large (12x12x10) illegal structure was being built at Meagher Park.
Halifax Regional Police visited the site and it was determined that this illegal structure was intended to serve as a cooking facility for occupants of the park. Due to the safety risks of operating an illegal structure of this nature in a public park, the individuals building the structure were asked to remove it.
A number of hours later, when the structure had not been voluntarily removed, municipal staff began removal efforts. No other items, including tents, temporary shelters, or food, were removed from Meagher Park.
No fines were issued by municipal staff, at Meagher Park, on Saturday.
With the safety of all residents as a top priority, it was the municipality’s obligation to take action using appropriate enforcement of existing by-laws and regulations.

Voici une déclaration de la Municipalité régionale d’Halifax concernant le retrait d’une structure illégale et dangereuse sur une propriété municipale :
Dans le milieu de l’après-midi le samedi 26 février, la municipalité a été informée qu’une grande structure illégale (12x12x10) était en construction au parc Meagher.
La police régionale d’Halifax a visité le site et il a été déterminé que cette structure illégale était destinée à servir d’installation de cuisine pour les occupants du parc. En raison des risques pour la sécurité de l’exploitation d’une structure illégale de cette nature dans un parc public, on a demandé aux personnes qui construisent la structure de la retirer.
Quelques heures plus tard, lorsque la structure n’avait pas été retirée volontairement, le personnel municipal a entrepris des travaux de retrait. Aucun autre objet, y compris les tentes, les abris temporaires ou la nourriture, n’a été retiré du parc Meagher.
Le samedi, le personnel municipal n’avait donné aucune amende au parc Meagher.
La sécurité de tous les résidents étant une priorité absolue, la municipalité était tenue de prendre des mesures en appliquant de façon appropriée les règlements municipaux existants.
