A man faces charges in connection with a number of incidents where vehicles were broken into and damaged.
Yesterday at 2:31 a.m., officers responded to the 5800 block of University Avenue to a report of a man was breaking into vehicles in the parkade. It was determined that five vehicles had been broken into and items had been stolen. A K9 Unit was able to conduct a track that resulted in an arrest on Greenwood Avenue.
Later that morning police respond to the 5500 block of Fenwick Street to a report that multiple vehicles in an underground parkade were broken into. Upon arrival, investigators learned that 12 vehicles had their windows smashed out and that in a number of cases items had been stolen. A suspect description was obtained that matched the man who had been arrested earlier that night for similar offences.
As a result of both investigations, 36-year-old Dean Gordon Normand was scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial court yesterday to face the following charges:
Section 430(4) CC - Property Damage (17 counts)
Section 345(1)(b) CC - Theft Under $5000 (3 counts)
Section 355(b) CC - Possession of Stolen Property
Section 145(3) CC - Breach of Recognizance (4 counts) Section 811 CC - Breach of Recognizance (2 counts)
The investigation is on-going and additional charges haven’t been rule out.
