Police have issued a summary offence ticket to a man for violating regulations of the N.S. Emergency Management Act.

At approximately 4:45 p.m. yesterday, Halifax Regional Police officers were patrolling Shubie Park in Dartmouth, one of the parks which is currently closed to the public as a precautionary measure to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

Officers located a vehicle at the entrance of the park in a no parking zone. Officers located the owner of the vehicle, a 57-year-old Dartmouth man, in the park in violation of the order. The man was issued a Summary Offence Ticket for Section 23(b) Emergency Management Act, failing to comply with direction, order or requirement made under act/regulations, with an associated fine of $697.50.

Halifax Regional Police strongly advises members of the public to educate themselves on the directives and new enforcement measures in the order of the Chief Medical Officer issued on March 24 at novascotia.ca/coronavirus.

We thank the vast majority of citizens who are following direction and complying with these rules for setting the right example and for protecting yourself and your community.
