Since Wednesday, the Halifax Regional Police Traffic Unit issued 63 tickets for speeding, distracted driving and other motor vehicle-related offences.
Members from the HRP Traffic Unit issued 63 summary offence tickets: 20 for speeding, one for stunting, 16 for using a cell phone while driving and 26 for other offences including no insurance, expired plates and no license. Officers spent time in the Romans Avenue and Vaughan Avenue areas of Halifax in relation to community concerns.
This morning, an officer observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 102 near Kearney Lake Road in Halifax. The officer captured the vehicle’s speed at 157 km/h in a 100 km/h zone. A 40-year-old Lower Sackville man was ticketed for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit. The fine in Nova Scotia for stunting is $2,422.50 and six points are assigned to the driver’s record.
In addition, the man was suspended from driving for seven days and the vehicle he was driving was seized and impounded.
