A man faces multiple charges in connection with numerous sexual-related offences.
On August 18, Halifax Regional Police received a complaint of a number of sexual-related offences that occurred over a period of eight months involving a 66-year-old man and a 17-year-old female.
Officers assigned to the HRP/RCMP Integrated Major Crime Unit immediately launched an investigation resulting in two searches. Both searches were conducted yesterday, the first at 6:15 a.m. at a residence in Bayside, and the second at 7:22 a.m. at a business in Halifax. A man was arrested without incident during the Bayside search, and two long-barrelled firearms were seized. During the search of the business, several items were seized including electronic storage devices containing child pornography.
Sixty-six-year-old Michael Kevin Stanhope was schedule to appear in Halifax Provincial Court today to face the following charges:
Section 163.1(2) CC - Making child pornography
Section 163.1(3) CC - Distributing child pornography
Section 163.1(4) CC - Possessing child pornography
Section 271(1)(a) CC - Sexual assault
Section 153 CC - Sexual exploitation
Section 264.1 CC - Uttering threats
Section 92(1) CC - Unauthorized possession of a firearm (2 counts)
Section 86(2) CC - Unsafe storage (2 counts)
