Halifax Regional Police officer criminally charged

Today Halifax Regional Police (HRP) charged 35-year old Constable Pierre-Paul Cadieux with sexual assault.

On Friday, May 25, 2018, HRP commenced an investigation into a report that Cst. Cadieux had committed a sexual assault in mid-2016 at a location in Halifax Regional Municipality.  Cst. Cadieux was not an HRP employee at the time of the incident; however, he was in training to become an HRP officer. It was not a random incident as he and the victim were known to each other and are currently HRP employees.

Cst. Cadieux was arrested this morning and released this afternoon with conditions. He is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court on July 31, 2018.  Cst. Cadieux, who has less than two years of service with HRP, has been suspended with pay in accordance with the Nova Scotia Police Act. SiRT is aware of the matter.

Sexual assault investigations are very complex. As part of our victim-centered, trauma-informed approach to sexualized violence, we work closely with victims to ensure they’re willing to proceed with a police investigation, which includes giving a statement about the incident. Police must also ensure the victim’s privacy is upheld and well-being is fully considered.
