Police warn citizens of recent break and enters

Halifax Regional Police is advising the public after two recent reports of break and enters into homes in Halifax and Dartmouth.

At 8 a.m. on December 5, police received a report of a break and enter not in progress at a residence on Summit Street in Dartmouth. The homeowners woke up to discover the backdoor ajar and that someone had entered their residence. Several items within the house were noted as missing, such a cell phone, digital camera and money. It’s believed the suspect(s) entered the house through an unlocked door. No one was physically inured during this incident, nor were any suspects observed.

At 2:13 a.m. on December 13, police responded to a residence in the 3300 block of Federal Avenue for a break and enter in progress. The residents had been sleeping when they heard a loud noise. The resident went downstairs and encountered two males in his front entry way. He yelled at the males who immediately ran out the door and were last seen running on foot towards Romans Avenue. It’s believed the males entered the house through an unlocked door. Nothing was taken and no one was injured.

To reduce the risk of your house being broken into, make sure that windows and doors are locked before you leave your home. If you have sliding windows or patio doors, place a piece of wood along the tracks to make them more difficult to open. If your home is equipped with an alarm, ensure it is activated when you leave. If you observe suspicious activity in your neighborhood, report it to police by calling 902-490-5020. Try to get a good description of the person including height, weight, clothing and other details. Take a look to see if there is a vehicle parked nearby and make note of the license plate number, make and model of the vehicle.

Officers are asking anyone with information about the above incidents to contact police at 902-490-5016.  Anonymous tips can be sent to Crime Stoppers by calling toll-free 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), submitting a secure web tip at http://crimestoppers.ns.ca/ or texting a tip - Tip 202 + your message to 274637.
