Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – Gather up your shovels, buckets, family, and friends this Sunday and head to Clam Harbour Beach for the region’s largest annual sandcastle competition.
Clam Harbour Beach is a long, beautiful white sand beach located along the Eastern Shore of the Halifax Regional Municipality. Over the past 36 years, this free, family-friendly sandcastle competition has attracted hundreds of participants and tens of thousands of spectators.
Date: Sunday, Aug.16 (rain or shine)
Time: 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. (shuttle service begins at 9:30 a.m.)
Location: Clam Harbour Beach Provincial Park, 158 Beach Road, Clam Harbour, Eastern Shore
In addition to watching participants sculpt their impressive sand creations throughout the day, you can enjoy the Family Fun Zone, listen to live music, search for one of five buried starfishes to win great prizes, and see real live mermaids on the beach from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Food vendors will be onsite once again in the beach parking lot, and merchandise will sold at the registration tent. We recommend people bring their own water and sunscreen, and leave pets at home in the event of hot, sunny conditions and crowds.
Prizes for the best sandcastles will be awarded to individuals and teams in three categories – Adult, Youth and Child – with judging to take place at 3 p.m. and prizes awarded at 4:30 p.m.
Please note there is limited parking available in the beach parking lot, and there will be parking restrictions in effect along Clam Harbour Road and Beach Road from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16. Parking will be permitted only on the right-hand side of the road (travelling towards the beach). Anyone parked on the left-hand side of the road (travelling towards the beach) will be ticketed and/or towed. Please respect this request as it permits for easy shuttle bus access and emergency access. No parking signs are posted along the route as a reminder.
