Thursday, June 25, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – The countdown is on as the Halifax Regional Municipality prepares to host one of the year’s biggest regional celebrations on Canada Day, July 1, with a number of free, family-friendly events planned for residents of all ages.
Begin celebrations a few days early with Dartmouth Crossing’s pre-Canada Day kickoff event on Saturday, June 27. The kickoff event will feature free food, music and fireworks for the whole family. Find out more about this event at www.dartmouthcrossing.com.
Show your love for Canada on July 1 and wear a maple leaf on your sleeve as you join us for a pancake breakfast, sing Oh Canada from the top of Citadel Hill, watch the Tattoo Parade in downtown Halifax and enjoy the Maple Lodge Farms Family Fun-Fest on the Halifax Common.
Gather your family and friends for the biggest free summer concert of the year at Alderney Landing beginning at 5:30 p.m., featuring Juno Award winners, the Arkells. The Canadian headliners will be joined by musical acts from coast to coast including: Glorious Sons, Party Boots, Laura Roy and Halifax’s own Elephants in Trouble.
At the end of the day, enjoy the sights and sounds of the Canada Day fireworks extravaganza over the Halifax Harbour at 10 p.m.
Halifax Transit will offer free ferry service on both the Alderney and Woodside ferry routes all day on July 1. In lieu of fare payment, Halifax Transit will be accepting food or monetary donations in support of FEED NOVA SCOTIA. The municipality strongly promotes not drinking and driving and encourages the use of public transit or a designated driver.
