Halifax Regional Police responded to 730 calls for service over the weekend. One notable incident is as follows:
Police arrest man after pursuit
Yesterday, police arrested a man after a pursuit in Halifax.
On July 13 at approximately 8:45 p.m., officers observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 102. Officers followed the vehicle and noticed smoke and debris falling from the car, which was caused by a rear tire blown out. Officers activated their lights and sirens to pull the vehicle over for unsafe driving, but the vehicle did not stop.
During the pursuit, the suspect lost control of his vehicle while attempting to evade the police and struck a police vehicle, which had its emergency lights activated, at the intersection of Transom Drive and Starboard Drive.
The pursuit concluded when officers surrounded the vehicle at the Larry Uteck Blvd and Nine Mile Drive roundabout. The lone occupant of the vehicle, a 22-year-old man, actively resisted arrest but was safely taken into custody at 9:10 p.m.
Dimitri Robertson-Webb, 22, is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court today to face charges of:
- Resist arrest
- Dangerous operation of a conveyance
- Flight from peace officer – failure to stop motor vehicle while being pursued
- Possession of housebreaking tools
- Unlawful possession or sale of tobacco products
An outstanding arrest warrant for failing to appear in court from Bridgewater RCMP was also executed.
