The Halifax Regional Municipality is providing residents the following update on impacts from the damaged crane at a construction site on Wyse Road in Dartmouth.

Macdonald Bridge

The on-site Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) officer from the Province of Nova Scotia’s Department of Labour, Skills and Immigration has confirmed that the crane is stable, allowing the Macdonald Bridge to reopen, effective immediately.

Evacuation area

The area around Faulkner Street, Lyle Street, Windmill Road and Wyse Road remains closed until further notice. However, as previously reported by Halifax Regional Police (HRP), Dawson Street was reopened overnight, allowing residents in that area to return home.

Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency and HRP remain at the scene to support OHS efforts and residents are still asked to avoid the area.

Approximately 20 people from 12 homes remain evacuated from the area as a precaution. They are receiving support from the Canadian Red Cross which organized temporary accommodations.

Halifax Transit service impacts

With the reopening of the Macdonald Bridge, Halifax Transit will resume normal routes across the bridge and free travel for cyclists on buses and the ferry will be discontinued effective immediately.

Further updates will be provided as additional information becomes available.
