Police release photos of suspect involved in scam targeting seniors

Police are advising citizens to be cautious of a scam that targets seniors that is continuing to occur throughout our region and are releasing photos of a suspect.

On July 12, a person received a call from someone pretending to be a family member who indicated that they have been arrested and were in jail. Another person representing themselves to be from the legal system became involved in the call and informed the victim that they need to pay money to have their loved one released from custody. The suspect arranged to pick up the money in person.

The suspect is described as a Black man with a medium build who was wearing blue pants, black shoes and an orange and black Columbia jacket with a yellow hood.

Anyone with information in relation to the incident is asked to call police at 902-490-5020. Anonymous tips can be sent to Crime Stoppers by calling toll-free 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), submitting a secure web tip at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca or by using the P3 Tips app.
