Halifax Regional Police issued 84 tickets for speeding, stunting and other motor vehicle-related offences over the last three days.
Members from the HRP Traffic Unit issued 84 summary offence tickets: 55 for speeding; 2 for stunting; and 27 for other offences including no insurance, expired plates, failing to change lanes, tinted windows, using cell phones and speeding in a construction zone.
Yesterday, as previously reported, an officer observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 102 near Hammonds Plains Road in Bedford. The officer captured the vehicle’s speed at 152 km/h in a 100 km/h zone. A 47-year-old Sackville woman was ticketed for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit.
Today, an officer observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 102 near Bayers Road in Halifax. The officer captured the vehicle’s speed at 106 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. A 24-year-old Bedford woman was ticketed for stunting under the Motor Vehicle Act, a charge that is automatically laid when a vehicle is travelling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit.
In addition, the two women were suspended from driving for seven days and the vehicles they were driving were seized and impounded.
We remind motorists to slow down in construction zones and be aware of temporary speed signage. In Nova Scotia, fines are doubled for drivers speeding in work zones and demerit points are also assigned to drivers’ records.
In a continued effort to address traffic safety issues and educate citizens on the rules of the road, our officers focus on speed enforcement. We all have a role to play in keeping our roads safe.
