Halifax Regional Police responded to 706 calls for service over the weekend. Some notable calls are as follows:

Police charge man with impaired operation and flight from police

On May 23 at approximately 10:45 p.m., officers responded to a weapons complaint near the 5100 block of George Street in Halifax.

The driver of a U-Haul van had stopped and threatened to assault people who were not know to him with a tire iron. He fled the scene prior to police arrival. Officers located the van but the driver of the van  did not stop and continued to flee at a high rate of speed. Officers called off the pursuit out of concern for public safety. 

At approximately 11:15 p.m., officers responded to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Connaught Avenue and Quinpool Road in Halifax.

The U-Haul van was reported to have hit another vehicle. The driver of the U-Haul van fled the scene on foot but was located nearby and arrested.

The driver of the vehicle that was hit was transported to the hospital with what were believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

A 28-year-old man is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date to face charges of resisting arrest, dangerous operation of a conveyance, impaired operation of a conveyance

and flight from police.

Police charge man with assault with a weapon and property damage

On May 24 at approximately 12:20 p.m., officers responded to disturbance at The Cheeky Neighbour Diner, located at 6024 Quinpool Road in Halifax.

A man was yelling at staff at Domino’s Pizza, adjacent to the diner. The man broke the door to Domino’s and then threw a large rock through the window of The Cheeky Neighbour, resulting in two patrons being injured. One patron was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The other was treated on scene by EHS.

At approximately 12:25 p.m., officers located and arrested the suspect.

A 38-year-old man is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court at a later date to face charges of assault with a weapon and property damage.

Police charge man with theft

On May 24, officers responded to a report of a theft that occurred at approximately 1:25 p.m. at Long and McQuade, located at 6065 Cunard Street in Halifax.

A man entered the business, took two guitars from the display and fled the scene.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., the suspect was located and arrested. Both guitars have been recovered.

A 29-year-old man is scheduled to appear in Halifax provincial court to face charges of theft under $5000.00 and possession of property obtained by crime less than $5000.00.

The investigation is ongoing.
