Police charge two men for several break and enters

Police have charged two men in relation to several break and enters that occurred yesterday and overnight in Halifax.

Today at approximately 12 a.m. police responded to a break and enter in-progress in the 5600 block of South Street. Two men were seen breaking into the parkade of the building before fleeing on foot prior to police arrival.

Police had been investigating several break and enters and thefts of mail with similar circumstances and suspect descriptions that occurred throughout the day on the Halifax peninsula.

At approximately 3 a.m., officers were in the 6000 block of Young Street when they observed two men matching the suspect descriptions from the incident on South Street. Officers arrested the two men without incident and seized a quantity of mail that is believed to have been stolen.

Adam David Sarty, 36, was scheduled to appear today in Halifax Provincial Court to face charges of:

  • Break and enter with intent x2
  • Theft of mail
  • Possession of break tools
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Possession of stolen property x27
  • Fail to appear for court

James Edward Carey, 38, was scheduled to appear today in Halifax Provincial Court to face charges of:

  • Break and enter with intent x4
  • Theft of mail x3
  • Possession of break tools x 5
  • Possession of stolen property x14
  • Break and enter to commit theft x2
  • Attempted theft of mail
