Police charge man with weapons and drug offences

Police have charged a man for weapons and drug offences in relation to an incident last night in Dartmouth

At approximately 9:10 p.m., East Division officers patrolling in the area of Woodland Avenue noted a vehicle making a left turn on a red light at the intersection of Woodland Avenue and Victoria Road. The officers activated their vehicle’s emergency equipment, but the vehicle did not stop. Officers followed the vehicle a short distance until it pulled into a parking lot on a nearby street and came to a stop.  Officers arrested the driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, and seized a loaded handgun and a quantity of cocaine.

Martinelle Cashay Shandez Beals, 21, is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court today to face charges of:

  • Unsafe storage of a firearm
  • Unsafe storage contrary to regulations
  • Possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace
  • Carrying a concealed firearm
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a firearm knowing that it is unauthorized
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle
  • Possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition
  • Tampering with a serial number
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking
  • Operating a conveyance while prohibited
  • Flight from peace officer
