Beginning this week, the Halifax Regional Municipality will be installing protected bikeway infrastructure on Hollis Street between Terminal Road and Barrington Street and on Terminal Road between Hollis and Lower Water streets, to complete a major connection in the Regional All Ages & Abilities (AAA) Bikeway Network. The project is expected to take approximately 10 weeks, ending in December.
This work will include the installation of pre-cast curb, bikeway pavement markings, and related asphalt, curb, and concrete work to extend the Downtown AAA Bikeway network. Cyclists, pedestrians, transit users and motorists can expect delays over the coming weeks while construction is underway. Construction impacts will be communicated in advance on our website and signage will be in place.
This project is part of an ongoing investment and development of the Regional Centre AAA Cycling Network, as outlined in the Regional Council-approved Integrated Mobility Plan (IMP). The IMP aims to establish a safer and more connected transportation network regardless of the mode of transportation you choose.
Investment in and development of infrastructure, such as protected bikeways, ensures a transportation network that is safe and accessible for all ages and abilities and furthers the municipality’s road safety efforts towards zero fatalities.
